This Barefoot Wines Pinto Grigio is only the third Pinot Grigio I've tried. All three have been from California. I'm looking forward to trying a Washington Pinot Grigio, since both states have a proud tradition of producing Pinot Grigio, and both are associated with slightly more fruit forward Pinot Grigios than their European winery counterparts.
The first thing I noticed about this NV California Barefoot Pinto Grigio was the aroma; it reminded me of flowers, something delicate with a hint of peach and honey. In the
glass it is a very pale golden yellow. The predominant notes in terms of taste are citrus and a hint of sour apple, but just a hint. This was a lovely crisp and refreshing Pinot Grigio, a good wine for a summer party and perfect for late spring or summer sipping on a deck with some friends and a selection of hors d'oeuvres. I'd definitely buy this again without any hesitation. The ABV is 12.5, and a 1.5 liter bottle is under $9.00, which is certainly conducive to inviting some friends over to enjoy a class of wine and some conversation. I want to try it with a margherita pizza, or a cold salmon salad with mango salsa. The hint of citrus makes me wonder how Barefoot's Pinot Grigio would work paired with a lime-based ceviche, and fresh hot tortillas. Barefoot's customers and fans have contributed quite a few recipes built around the winery's Pinot Grigio, and several of them look fabulous.
This is a wine that's won a couple of gold medals, the most recent one awarded n 2007. You can find a few other reviews here and here.
